How To Become A Buyer-

The Galveston County Fair & Rodeo hosts two separate Auctions during our annual fair. We encourage anyone who is interested in participating as a buyer to contact us at 409-986-6010.  We will be glad to place you on our auction invitation list. If you are unable to pre-register to be a buyer, please bring a business card, if available, with you to registration the day of the auction.

 

We also have online bidding available thru Cattle in Motion who will be livestreaming the events. You can pre-register on their site cattleinmotion.com

 

About The Junior Auction-

Each year 4-H and FFA youth exhibitors purchase one or more animals to raise and show at the Livestock Shows, Ag Mechanics Show or the Youth Project Show held during the annual Galveston County Fair & Rodeo. The youth project and Ag Mechanics exhibitors encounter the cost of materials needed for their projects and the time and dedication spent on making their project. Animal projects encounter the cost of feed, grooming supplies, shelter and any other needs required by their show animal. Show animal projects also require the time and dedication of the youth exhibitors who do their best to raise their animals in anticipation of being named “Champion”.

 

The top youth winners of seven different Livestock Shows – Rabbits, Chickens, Turkeys, Swine, Lambs, Goats and Steers – will sell their animals, Grand and Reserve Ag Mechanics and Grand and Reserve Youth Project Show in the Junior Auction which will be on the Wednesday, during the fair, with a Buyer’s Reception beginning at 4:00 p.m. A Buyer can be an individual, group, company or business and can expect to spend as little as $1,000 for an animal or project.

 

About The Junior Commercial Heifer Auction –

Single heifers and pen of three heifers, ages 10 months to 24 months of age, are raised and shown by youth exhibitors in the Junior Commercial Heifer Show held during the annual Galveston County Fair & Rodeo. The youth exhibitor encounters the cost of feed, grooming supplies, shelter and any other needs required by their show animal. Show animal projects also require the time and dedication of the youth exhibitors who do their best to raise their animals in anticipation of being named “Champion”.

 

The top placing heifers and pens of three must sell along with others chosen to be sold by the youth exhibitors in the Junior Commercial Heifer Auction held on the last Saturday of the fair at 4:00 p.m. with the Buyer’s Reception and registration beginning at 2:00 p.m. A Buyer can be an individual, group, company or business and can expect to spend at least $1,300 for a heifer.

 

TERMS OF SALE

Bidding: All animals sell to the highest bidder. Any disputes or questions regarding bids will be settled by the Auctioneer and his decision will be final. All animals will be sold by the head or pen.

Payment: The Buyer is requested to make payment in full at the time of sale unless approved arrangements have been made prior to the sale. If the Buyer is billed for their purchases, payment is due upon receipt of the invoice. All payments should be made to GCF&R – VISA & MASTERCARD accepted. The youth exhibitors will be paid by GCF&R.

 

Junior Auction Purchase Information:

Invoices must be signed by the Buyer with the completed information regarding disposition of the animals, Buyer’s name, billing address, contact phone number and purchase price.

 

Processing: For processing of steers, swine, lambs and goats, the Buyer is responsible for their choice of processor, contacting the processor for processing instructions, paying all processing charges, providing their own transportation for their processed animal, and picking up their processed animal in the time allotted by the processor. Once the animal is delivered to the processor in the buyer’s name, processing becomes the liability of the Buyer. The youth exhibitors are responsible for the processing of rabbits, broilers and turkeys and arrangements for the delivery of these animals to the buyer or the donation location indicated by the buyer with in 6 (six) weeks following the end of the fair.

 

Donated Animals: As a Buyer, you will have the option of keeping the animal you purchased for personal consumption or if you do not wish to keep the animal(s) you purchase, please consider donating them to a non-profit organization. Please indicate the name, address and phone number of the charity or group that is to receive the donated animal. The Buyer agrees to pay all processing charges for steers, swine, lambs and goats.

Jr. Commercial Heifer Purchase Information:

 

Invoices must be signed by the Buyer with the completed information regarding delivery/pickup of the heifers, Buyer’s name, billing address, contact phone number and purchase price. All heifers must remain on the fairgrounds until check-out on Sunday after the end of the fair from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. There will be no early release for any reason; however, all heifers must be removed from the fairgrounds no later than 12:00 noon on Sunday after the fair.
