Small Animal, Goat & Lamb: Thursday, April 20th 7:00 p.m.
Pig: Friday, April 21st 7:00 p.m.
Calf: Saturday, April 22nd 7:00 p.m.
***MEET ON YOUR EVENT’S NIGHT AT THE GCF&R LIVESTOCK OFFICE
***YOU WILL RECEIVE YOUR T-SHIRTS AND ANY NECESSARY EQUIPMENT FOR YOUR EVENT SUPPLIED BY THE FAIR
1. Calf, Pig, Lamb & Goat, & Small Animal Scrambles will be staged in accordance with the annual Galveston County Fair & Rodeo, Inc. General Livestock Rules and Guidelines. The Galveston County Fair & Rodeo, Inc. is not responsible for any loss or injury to any participant in this event.
2. Only 4-H or FFA members from Galveston County are eligible to participate.
3. Participants shall scramble in only one Galveston County Fair & Rodeo Scramble per year. All youth winning a sponsorship in the Scrambles will not be eligible to enter the same scramble in the future. However, winners may enter another scramble division in the future.
4. There will be no substitute scramblers allowed in any scramble event for any reason. (Penalty: forfeiture of prizes awarded if caught.)
5. The winning 2023 Scramblers must attend one MANDATORY* meeting (see below):
FAILURE TO ATTEND THIS MEETING RESULTS IN DISQUALIFICATION FROM COMPETITION AND FORFEITURE OF ANY PRIZES AWARDED – EXCUSED (UIL) ABSENCES MUST BE CLEARED WITH THE SCRAMBLE CHAIRMAN PRIOR TO MEETING DATE AND TIME.
*Wednesday, May 10, 2023 – In the Paul Tibaldo Memorial Youth Building. For winning Scramblers Only to discuss scramble requirements and sponsor information for reports and fill out “Thank You” cards.
6. The number of participants in each Scramble will be set by the Scramble Committee.
7. Scramble winners are required to remain after the Scramble to meet with the Chairperson and the sponsors to take pictures.
8. Winning Scramblers must prove their ability to adequately care for and house the animal by taking and sending an original picture of the housing area and turning it in with their first monthly report.
9. All Scramble Winners are required to submit Scramble Animal Monthly Reports forms on their scramble projects. Sample Monthly report forms are available in the Fair Office or online. A monthly report is due for each month you own the project (including the “Fair” month). The monthly report forms are to include a copy of sponsor’s report, completed with a stamped addressed envelope to the sponsor, and a copy of the report for the Chairperson of the Scramble Committee. Scramble winners will turn in the monthly report forms on their project to the Fair Office. This completed monthly report is to be delivered to the fair office by the 10th of each succeeding month. Failure to comply with these requirements could result in the participant's inability to participate in future scrambles. The Galveston County Fair & Rodeo, Inc. reserves the right to confiscate the animals or request the refund of sponsorship money within thirty (30) days of participants who do not abide or adhere to these Scramble Rules.
10. Any eligible scramble participant who catches but is unable to raise the animal the next year for whatever reason before sponsorship money has been paid must notify the Scramble Chairperson or Fair Office immediately. Galveston County Fair & Rodeo, Inc. reserves the right to determine which other non-winning scramble participant will receive that sponsorship money (if any) and re-award that money (if any) only by a Scramble Committee selection process. The sponsor will be notified of any status change of his/her sponsorship. A meeting with all parties involved will be scheduled to resolve any disputes.
11. Scramble participants who catch but are unable to raise the animal after they have received the sponsorship money must contact the Scramble Chairman or the Fair Office immediately. The participant shall have thirty
(30) days to reimburse the sponsorship money. A meeting with all parties involved will be scheduled to resolve any disputes. The sponsor will have a choice of either carrying the sponsorship to the next Fair year or requesting a reimbursement of the sponsorship fund.
12. Each scramble division has rules applying to that particular division.
13. A completed PROOF OF PURCHASE form and a copy of a BILL OF SALE for scramble animal must be received in the Fair Office by the Exhibitor Entry Deadline for 2024 for a check to be issued. A 2023 scrambler will not receive a check for the purchase of an animal before July 1, 2023, or after the Exhibitor Entry Deadline for 2024. GCF&R will consider this documentation as the transfer of full and sole ownership of the scramble animal(s) from the Breeder/Rancher to the Scramble Contestant.
**The receipt of any moneys by a scramble contestant from GCF&R for a project is a binding contract between the contestant and GCF&R. Contestants must fulfill their obligations as set forth in this rules document or forfeit any and all moneys received. Forfeiture includes the remuneration to GCF&R of all moneys received by the contestant immediately upon notice by GCF&R.
14. ALL scramble participants are required to wear a furnished mouthpiece during all scramble events.
15. Each participant is required to sign an Indemnity Form and Emergency Medical Form along with the Entry Form. Failure to complete these forms will result in disqualification. (available online)
16. Participants in any scramble event must be eligible under the No Pass-No Play rule. Participants who are found to be ineligible will not be allowed to scramble.
17. Scramble winners for 2023 are required to have their Sponsor's "Thank you" card 'mail ready' (stamped and addressed to your sponsor) in the Fair Office no later than June 1, 2023. The Fair Office will mail the "Thank You" card for you. This card will be filled out at the only required meeting May 10, 2023.
18. All correspondence is to be processed and received by and through the “Fair Office” to facilitate proper record keeping of your reports and other forms as needed. DO NOT correspond directly with your sponsor or the Scramble Committee will not be able to record your information as needed.
CALF SCRAMBLE RULES
1. Participants must have reached their 12th but not their 18th birthday on January 1, and not be enrolled beyond their Junior year in High School.
2. Participants must cross finish line with the haltered calf.
3. Winners in this contest will receive a $800.00 sponsorship toward the purchase of a Junior Commercial Heifer only to be fed, raised, and entered in the 2024 Galveston County Fair & Rodeo.
4. Winning scramblers will be required to attend one mandatory meeting. The purpose of this meeting will be to discuss scramble requirements and sponsor information for reports and fill out “Thank You” cards.
5. A Calf Scramble winner with the best set of Project Monthly Report records will be selected to receive an additional prize of a check for $200.00. To be eligible for the prize, all monthly scramble reports including the “Fair” month should be submitted or there will not be a winner for this division.
6. All calves must be purchased before “Tag-In”, approximate date in October, 2023.
7. The Scramble Heifers must compete in the “Special” Scramble Heifer Class during the Junior Commercial Heifer Show, entry as an exhibitor in ANY of the other Classes is optional, and heifer may be subject to go thru "SALE".
PIG SCRAMBLE RULES
1. Participants must not have reached their 18th birthday on January 1, and not be enrolled beyond their Junior year in High School.
2. Participants must cross finish line with the captured pig.
3. Winners in this contest will receive $400.00 sponsorship toward the purchase of a pig to be fed, raised, and entered in the 2024 Galveston County Fair & Rodeo Market Swine Show.
4. Winning scramblers will be required to attend one mandatory meeting. The purpose of this meetings will be to discuss scramble requirements and sponsor information for reports and fill out “Thank You” cards.
5. A Pig Scramble winner with the best set of Project Monthly Report records will be selected to receive an additional prize of a check for $150.00. To be eligible, for the prize, all monthly scramble reports including the “Fair” month should be submitted or there will not be a winner for this division.
6. All pigs must be purchased by “Tag-In”, January 2024.
LAMB and GOAT SCRAMBLE RULES
1. Participants must not have reached their 18th birthday on January 1, and not be enrolled beyond their Junior year in High School.
2. Participants must cross finish line with the lamb/goat.
3. Winners in this contest will receive $300.00 sponsorship toward the purchase of a lamb or goat to be fed, raised, and entered in the 2024 Galveston County Fair & Rodeo Market Lamb or Market Goat Show.
4. Winning scramblers will be required to attend one mandatory meeting. The purpose of this meetings will be to discuss scramble requirements and sponsor information for reports and fill out “Thank You” cards.
5. A Lamb & Goat Scramble winner with the best set of Project Monthly Report records will be selected to receive an additional prize of a check for $150.00. To be eligible for the prize, all monthly scramble reports including the “Fair” month should be submitted or there will not be a winner for this division.
6. All lambs or goats must be purchased by “Tag-In”, December, 2023.
SMALL ANIMAL SCRAMBLE RULES
1. Participants must not have reached their 18th birthday on January 1, and not be enrolled beyond their Junior year in High School.
2. Participants must cross finish line with the chicken.
3. Winners in this contest will receive $150.00 sponsorship toward the purchase of Broilers, Turkeys, or Rabbits to be fed, raised, and entered in the 2024 Galveston County Fair & Rodeo Market Broiler, Market Turkey, or Market Rabbit Show.
4. Winning scramblers will be required to attend one mandatory meeting. The purpose of this meetings will be to discuss scramble requirements and sponsor information for reports and fill out “Thank You” cards.
5. A Small Animal Scramble winner with the best set of Project Monthly Report records will be selected to receive an additional prize of a check for $100.00. To be eligible for the prize, all monthly scramble reports including the “Fair” month should be submitted or there will not be a winner for this division.
6. All small animals must be purchased by their respective order or breeding dates for the 2024 Fair.
Fair officials reserve the right to change the rules, dates, times and places due to unforeseen circumstance.
